A/C tune-up: “Condenser fan motor drawing high amperage”

I'd say you have two courses of action.

If you have the proper tools and knowledge, you could test the motor yourself. Compare the readings you get, against the manufacturer's specification. If the motor can be cleaned, oiled, or greased. You could do that work, and see if it helps. However, you might find that the only way to perform maintenance on the motor, is a complete tear-down and rebuild. If that's the case, replacement might be the more cost effective choice.

If you don't have the tools and knowledge, or maybe just don't have the time. Getting a second and third opinion from other companies, would give you an idea if this is actually a problem.

When you contact the other companies, don't tell them about the results from previous companies. If they don't find the same problem, ask them about it at the end of the...

My AC blows cold air, so I assume my compressor outside works OK. Please correct if that's an incorrect assumption.

The problem is, there is very little cold airflow that comes out of the floor ducts... To the point that closing all the windows and running AC makes a negligible difference in room temperatures, at least as much as the wife desires it to alter.... I.e. if 85 inside and we set it to 70, the 70°F is never reached.

I have the setup where compressor is outside, and fan/evaporator coils are inside as part of the furnace unit.

Can any components be swapped internally to alleviate this low air condition, or is a new system the only option? My dad said the motor and fan can be upgraded, but he knows refrigeration better than AC hence why I'm here asking.

Lastly, my house was built in the 70s, could this also be a problem with an inefficient HVAC duct design more than the poor and old AC system?

PS, filter is brand new so that isnt the...

I have a two year old central A/C unit. Every 2/3 months the unit shuts off.

I called the rep/maintenance company and they have given me the following response:

The cause of the issue is algae building up within the drainage line This is due to the climate in Florida This is extremely common, and in fact comprises the majority of their service calls

Their solution is to:

Shop vac the drainage line Pour bleach down the line

I have asked co-workers, family members in state, and a friend who's father has been in A/C for a few decades in the south an no one else has heard of this / has this issue.

This was most definitely not explained during the purchase of the new unit.

Does anyone know if this normal? Am I getting...

Nearly 80 percent of all major problems with air conditioners and furnaces can be averted with professional maintenance. Not unlike a visit to the doctor’s office, a checkup from the industry-certified technicians at Southern Air can help prevent an emergency down the road. For example, a part that is under great strain isn’t going to benefit from you running your AC nearly constantly this summer. But, replacing that part in advance could prevent damage to the rest of the system.

Overall, an AC tune-up can help you avoid a situation where your family is without air this summer. That’s a major reason to give Southern Air a call. We maintain and repair all makes and models, and we can make sure your AC is refreshed and ready for the summer ahead.

Dropped A tuning for a 6-string guitar is achieved by tuning all strings down a 4th with the lowest string tuned one additional step down as follows A E A D F# B. This is a "drop 1" tuning in the key of B, i.e. tune the whole guitar down a perfect fourth from standard tuning, then tune the 6th string a whole step down. As a result, it uses the same fingering as drop D tuning and drop C tuning.

Drop A tuning is also an alternate tuning for a 7-string guitar where the lowest string is tuned down ("dropped") from the standard B by one whole step to A as follows A E A D G B E.

There are several variations of dropped A tuning:

A A D G B E - a guitar tuned to E Standard with the 6th string dropped to a low A with the 6th and 5th strings an octave apart. A E A D G B variation imitates a seven-string drop A tuning on a six-string, excluding the high E. A G C F A D - "drop perfect fourth in the key of the D", i.e. whole guitar is...

Cybercrime is a fast-growing area of crime. More and more criminals are exploiting the speed, convenience and anonymity of the Internet to commit a diverse range of criminal activities that know no borders, either physical or virtual, cause serious harm and pose very real threats to victims worldwide.

Although there is no single universal definition of cybercrime, law enforcement generally makes a distinction between two main types of Internet-related crime:

Advanced cybercrime (or high-tech crime) – sophisticated attacks against computer hardware and software; Cyber-enabled crime – many ‘traditional’ crimes have taken a new turn with the advent of the Internet, such as crimes against children, financial crimes and even terrorism.

$80 is a good price for a tune up/ seasonal ac start up. I usually charge more.

I'm a service tech, did well over 100 start ups these past few months. I have a basic check list, outlined by my company, that I complete each visit.

A visit from your service tech should include the following.

- cleaning of the condenser
- change the filter
- drain lines be cleared with pressure
- condensate pump tested
- system pressures/ freon charge checked
- oil any motors with oil ports
- change belts/ check-grease blower bearings (commercial unit mostly)
- observe unit cycle/ satisfy thermostat
- check all electrical components (capicitors contactor etc.)
- measure temperature split/ differential

A better term for tune up is preventive maintenance. If I see a burnt or pitted contactor I will offer to change it for the customer, but only after I receive their approval. I'd rather change a part that I can tell...

A little preventative maintenance goes a long way. It'll save you time and money in the future. Find out why you should schedule an air conditioner tune up.

Waiting to schedule an air conditioner tune up, or failing to do so, can result in expensive, unintended consequences. Experts agree that regular maintenance lowers energy consumption and repair costs while improving overall home comfort. The ideal time to schedule such a service would be Spring time. Although a tune up can be done at any time as long as the technician can run the A/C to test it, Spring is the most beneficial time in terms of timing the service.

In Spring, heating and air companies set aside time for air conditioning maintenance. This is the perfect time to schedule an appointment before the summer blaze starts to come in. Getting a tune up done in Spring also gets the system going and in shape so that it is ready to keep you cool throughout Summer. If you try to schedule a tune up in Summer,...

A precision tune-up is the best gift you can give your air conditioner!

Many people express dissatisfaction with the performance and operating costs of their cooling system, but this is usually from those who have failed to schedule annual HVAC maintenance and have forgotten to change their filters every 1-3 months.

If you want to save time and money to ensure your air conditioner is operating at peak performance, you must schedule regular professional maintenance.

All winter long, your home's cooling system has been lying dormant. Before the heat hits, make sure your HVAC system is ready to go – don't get caught without air conditioning in the blistering heat!

At Gold Medal, we recommend scheduling annual tune-ups for your air conditioner in the early spring to make up for any negative impact the winter had on it. Annual tune-ups allow us to inspect the safety and efficiency of your system so that you can keep cool and comfortable all summer...

Discover the Top 10 Reasons Every Homeowner Should Have An Air Conditioning Tune Up...(At Least ONE!) You'll keep more money in your pocket.

Perform a Comfort Consultation. Let's discuss comfort issues with you so we can direct you to educational information and potential solutions.

Benchmark your system - where are you in the life expectancy of your system? (no one wants to replace too early). Think of it this way, the repairs of vehicles over 100,000 miles are more frequent and more expensive than under 100,000. Do you know the efficiency rating(SEER) of your A/C system?

Check to see if you have proper air flow. Is anything restricting it. Insufficient air flow: anything that restricts air flow will cause the temperature of the system’s evaporator coil to drop below freezing. Humidity in the air will collect on the coil causing ice to build-up and diminish the system’s cooling capacity. Dirty air filters; collapsed, obstructed and undersized ducts;...
