The closet doors are most likely listed in actual finished opening size. However it is a good idea to use a tape measure to check 100% for sure. Some doors are made a little oversize to allow trimming into final size for the specified opening size. Other doors may very well be made a small amount undersize to allow for the necessary clearances needed for a finish sized door within the specified opening size.

The installation instructions that come with many doors will be your first go-to source of information regarding the finished opening size is applicable to the doors.

As far as the rough opening size . . . That is totally dependent on your individual situation. Some things that will affect rough opening size are:

= The size and thickness of the door jamb material for cases where a jamb is used.

= Style of jamb used and how the door itself will interact with the jamb.

= Squareness and true of the rough opening. A rough opening that is out of...

Bifold closet doors should operate smoothly on their tracks. When something catches in the track and causes the doors to drag, you may be able to identify the problem while the door is hanging on its track. If you can’t, you must disassemble the door to fix it. The most common problem is that one of the two pivot pins that operate the door needs replacing. Don't worry, whatever your reason for taking then down, you don't need heavy-duty DIY skills to disassemble bifold doors on your own.

Open the bifold doors so the two panels are together. Lift both panels up to release the doors from the upper and lower tracks. You may need to compress the lower pivot pins as you raise the door to free it from the lower track. This should release the doors. If that doesn’t work, close the panels partially. Compress the lower pivot pins and pull the bottom of the doors out of their track and toward the room while you simultaneously pull the doors off their upper track.

Your interest in 'Bifold Door Sizes' is likely related to a repair or replacement project on a closet door.

For information on repairing bifold doors, see the article 'Troubleshooting Bifold Doors'. If you are considering a replacement project, see the article, 'Installing Bifold Doors'.

Table of Bifold Door Sizes

Bifold door sizes do have limitations. Some sizes can be special ordered if you have time to wait. This is a list of common bifold door sizes that are fairly standard and readily available.

but 3 Primary partitions and I should be able to do that.

On harddisks with MBR formatting the system was designed to allow up to 4 partitions. You can not add a fifth partition. There simply is no space for more than 4 entries in the defined data structures on disk.

At the time that was plenty. Then disks shrunk and grew. (shrunk as in size. See this nice picture to get an idea how big they were). Grew as in: capacity increased. Suddenly it was viable (and useful!) to chop the disk into smaller part, much like putting multiple stories in a book.

However there is only room in this books index for up to 4 chapters. No more.

This is why you can not add a fifth primary partition.

There is a workaround. A extended partition. Basically it is as if you put in a chapter and devide that into little stories (logical partitions).

This allows you to use more partitions in total, but you can still only have four of those in the original...

8 is the key in design choices. Think "function". How do you go about your morning? Take a shower, want your clothes handy and right there and get dressed?

I think this is how most people operate. You the same?

You are smart to limit the size of your bedroom. You really need only a bed in there.

So, your closet should be spacious. Consider the following in your closet:

1) High ceilings with pull-down rods
2) A chair
3) Large countertop with a place to place a suitcase, morning outfit, etc.

Finally, if your closets can butt up to one another, consider one closet with his/her side and a counter in the middle which acts as a divider. That saves space ( a wall takes up a lot of footprint). It will also feel more open.

.....and just in case one spouse has more clothes than the other.....maybe one spouse would give up some of his room for the other spouse. Just saying.

I’ve wanted to live in a castle or old mansion my entire life, just because they often have secret rooms and passageways –- you know, like Clue. Reader Beano-t must’ve been under the spell of that same desire when he built his new closet door.

Beano’s building a hidden latch mechanism into the bookcase to make it even cooler, and we can’t wait to see how it all comes out. If he manages to build the latch into a tilting book he gets mad props.

It’s also fun to remember that the best things in life are free. Two years from now when someone who’s never seen it comes over to his house and Beano finds a way to work around to opening the creaking secret door, the sounds of jaws dropping will most likely be heard next door.

Master boot record (MBR) disks use the standard BIOS partition table. GUID partition table (GPT) disks use unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI). One advantage of GPT disks is that you can have more than four partitions on each disk. GPT is also required for disks larger than 2 terabytes.

You can change a disk from MBR to GPT partition style as long as the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes.

You cannot use the GPT partition style on removable media, or on cluster disks that are connected to shared SCSI or Fibre Channel buses that are used by the Cluster service.

Backup Operators or Administrator is the minimum membership required.

I'm need to find a method to programmatically determine which disk drive Windows is using to boot. In other words, I need a way from Windows to determine which drive the BIOS is using to boot the whole system.

Does Windows expose an interface to discover this? With how big the Windows API is, I'm hoping there is something buried in there that might do the trick.

p.s. Just reading the first sectors of the hard disk isn't reveling anything. On my dev box I have two hard disks, and when I look at the contents of the first couple of sectors on either of the hard disks I have a standard boiler plate MBR.

Edit to clarify a few things. The way I want to identify the device is with a string which will identify a physical disk drive (as opposed to a logical disk drive). Physical disk drives are of the form "\\.\PHYSICALDRIVEx" where x is a number. On the other hand, a logical drive is identified by a string of the form, "\\.\x" where x is a drive...

MBR bathroom floor question

Right now, when you walk into the MBA area you have a doorway with the sink/vanity to the left and closet door to the right (no door on doorway to the area or to the closet) and then straight ahead is the door for the bathroom (toilet/bathtub). It's carpeted all the way to the actual bathroom. My mom thinks we should pull up the carpet from the first doorway up until the bathroom and put down vinyl or tile. She said people like that area not carpeted? What do you think? I just think it's more of a hassle. But we're trying to sell it so we need to appeal to buyers. Thanks!

i agree with your mom... i think you should tile or vinyl the vanity area. if theres a sink there, theres always a chance of water getting onto the carpet.. if people are going to be standing there doing there makeup, brushing their teeth,...

Why need convert system disk from MBR to GPT?

How many of you know how to convert system disk from MBR to GPT? Why is this necessary? GPT can break the size limits in MBR that GPT supports up to 128 partitions but not just 4 primary partitions. Therefore, you can create as many primary partitions as you want with greater stability in GPT.

But if the system disk is MBR, how can you turn it into GPT? Is it possible to change the system disk from MBR to GPT? When users have installed Windows in hard drive as MBR and stored all data on it, does there still exist a chance to convert the system disk from MBR to GPT without reinstalling the system? What if you are facing such a problem, what will you do? Any recommended solutions or partition management software that can help?

Paint your closet door.

Most closet doors are flat, and therefore, relatively easy to paint. But some doors, particularly those in walk-in closets, have multiple panels that require a special painting technique. For intricate doors, following a painting pattern can produce high-quality results.

Paint the panels first. Use a small roller to cover most of the panel surfaces. Use a brush to touch up. Be sure to paint along the wood grain. This highlights the grain and gives a cleaner look. Paint the center, vertical stile of the door that runs between the panels. Use a roller to cover this area quickly. Paint vertically. Paint the horizontal rails in the middle of the door. Paint these sections horizontally with a roller. Paint the 2 outside stiles vertically, from top to bottom. Paint the header and footer panels between the outside stiles and the panels. These sections should be painted horizontally using a brush or roller. Apply a thin film of paint along the edge of the door...

The differences between MBR and GPT disks

There are two kinds of disk style named MBR and GPT. They are both used in computers for storage information. But what’s the difference between MBR and GPT disks? Why should you need to convert MBR to GPT?

MBR, the master boot record disk, uses the standard BIOS partition table, and supports up to 2 TB per single partition in Windows OS. It only supports up to 4 primary partitions. If you want to create more partitions on MBR, you have to change one primary partition into extended partition, so that you can create more 128 logical drives in the extended partition.

GPT, the GUID partition table disk, uses EFI, its volume is bigger than MBR disk and it breaks out the limitation of up to 2TB disk space and 4 primary partitions. But it can only support Windows 64bit system from Windows Vista. You can use GPT disk in 32 bit version of Windows XP, 2003, 2000, etc.

Besides, removable flash drives are recognized as MBR...

A common misconception is that closet door hardware, especially hardware for sliding closet doors, require a bottom track. The belief is that the bottom track helps support the weight of the doors as well as keep the doors aligned.

The Johnson Hardware we supply with our closet doors is actually designed to support the entire weight of the doors at the top. The rollers are all sets of 3 or 4 wheels that have been machine turned and balanced. This means that the optional bottom track is used only to help guide your sliding closet doors and bifold doors.

When should I use a bottom track?

You really only need to use the bottom guide when there is a concern that the doors might be bumped hard enough to swing back and forth. Some good examples would be if the doors are being be used between rooms or if you have small children or large pets.

Are bottom tracks only for sliding closet doors?

No. Larger bi-fold doors are also good candidates for a bottom...

Thanks for the input, everyone. I thought I'd post a layout plan so you can see the specific situation we have. I had been pretty much sold on the pocket door, but realized it WILL be more of a PITA to build (we're DIY) and more costly than a regular door. So now I'm still trying to decide whether that extra is worth it for what we'd gain. What do you think???

We are already planning to move the door opening to a different wall to better utilize the floor space in the small bathroom. If we do a regular door, the swing area will be right where one would stand to wash hands at the sink, but the door would not open against the vanity, but against the opposite wall. In using the bathroom door, one would need to step back away from the vanity (further into the room) in order to operate the door. We're thinking that the pocket door would avoid that.

In our house, locks are rarely, if ever used. And the teenager daughter spends a lot of time at the mirror in the bathroom. We...

As I am narrowing down possible floorplans, I need to make some choices about the location of the closets in the mbr suite. I realize that this is something that the designer/architect could move around, that I don't necessarily have to eliminate a floorplan because the master suite isn't just right upfront. The thing is, I have only lived in places up till now that have the closets that open directly into the sleeping chamber of the suite and most of the plans I am evaluating have the closet either between the br and the bath or where you have to walk into or through the mba to get to the closets. I know how I THINK each of these choices will live, but this is just theory on my part, lol. Wondering about issues with noise, moisture, access, etc. Where are your closets and does their location work for your life or not?

For some reason, I have it in my head that the best position is to have the closet between the br and the bath with pocket doors at the entry from the br to...

I’m working on planning a remodeling projects which involved moving around much of the bottom floor layout of my house. I’m looking at a 16x8 block of space the architect drew to be shared between a master closet (shared his/her) and pantry. This space is between the kitchen and master suite area. The closet is across a hall from the master bathroom. The hall goes from the bedroom to an exercise room.

A sketch of the current plan is below. The space is divided into a 10’6” by 8’ closet and a 5’5”x 8’ pantry. The closet would have hanging on two sides and a fairly large open space in the middle. I don’t believe it is wide enough to do any sort of island or even seat in the middle so that seems like wasted space to me. The only reason I can think to keep it is we are building for a plan to age in place and the wide door and open space would make the closet more accessible. Down sides are I might like to steal 6-12 inches from the back of this space for greater kitchen...

Interior doors of any style can be mounted as a sliding closet doors; all that it takes is the correct type of sliding door hardware!

However, there are a few options that you need to consider when it comes to the hardware:

How do you plan to use your Sliding Closet Doors? Before we look at any of the options you want to take a moment and really think about how you will be using your sliding doors. Are they for a closet or utility room, a free-standing wardrobe or will the doors be separating two living spaces? Will you be opening them every day or just once in a blue moon? When you do open the doors will you need them to slide far enough apart to remove a heat pump or just wide enough to grab a clean pair of socks? Will it only be you using these doors or will it be your kids or will the doors be used in a public space? Knowing how you will use your sliding doors will help you in deciding which type of sliding door hardware will best suit your...
