Electric - turn one light on dims another room

1

Introduction

Lighting controls have traditionally been used to create moods. Today, they are also used as part of a high quality energy efficient lighting system that integrates daylight and electric light sources to provide a comfortable and visually interesting environment for the occupants of a space. Electric lighting controls are appropriate for a wide variety of spaces, from restrooms to large open offices, from conference rooms to classrooms. They can be incorporated with daylighting to provide flexibility, energy savings, and ecological benefits. Although lighting controls are still most commonly used in commercial buildings, they are also increasingly being used in residential applications.

She handed him a light blue shirt.

Carmen turned the light off and shut the door.

The revelation also threw a new light on why Alex halted his life to take care of Katie.

Carmen read to her from a book for a few minutes until she fell asleep and then turned the light off.

There was a light step behind her, and then Allen's eyes widened as his attention shifted to a point behind her.

He flipped on the light and Lisa turned to get some coffee cups.

Who hasn't sat at a stop light and been so distracted by something else that they didn't notice the light was green?

She walked stiffly to the closet, deciding quickly on a pair of blue jeans and a light shirt with a collar that would hide most of her neck.

Brandon towered over her - the living room light forming a halo around his tall muscular frame.

How could they have missed feeling the light flakes that had been kissing their cheeks?

The moon peeked shyly...

Experiencing power supply problems can be difficult. Below, we have given suggestions of what could be your power supply problem.

power supply problems

In some homes and offices, a receptacle (outlet) on the wall is controlled by a light switch near the entrance to the room. This allows you to plug a lamp into the receptacle and turn it on and off with the switch.

If an appliance that is plugged into a receptacle has no power, first turn on all the light switches in the room. Sometimes the device will come on, which means that it’s controlled by a switch.

Hint: A receptacle usually has spaces for two plugs. Sometimes one is permanently energized and the other is controlled by a switch. This is known as a “half-hot” receptacle.

In any location where there may be moisture (like kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoors) special receptacles (outlets) are used for safety. These are called GFIs. The idea of a GFI receptacle is that with the slightest...

Lights Not Turning On

Lights don't turn on for six basic reasons:

The bulb is bad. This is more common than one might think. Try replacing a questionable light bulb with a new one. If that doesn't work, before giving up, try using a bulb from another light fixture that you KNOW is working. The switch to the light is bad. The switch will need to be replaced. The light fixture is broken. Usually it is easiest and least expensive to simply replace the fixture. However, many light fixtures can be repaired if it is desired. No power. Please go to the Power Problems section. The time clock for the light is not set for the correct time or is broken. Re-set the time or replace the broken time clock. If the light fixture is activated by a photo-cell, the photo-cell is out of adjustment or broken. Adjust or replace the photo-cell. Fluorescent, Mercury-Vapor, or High-Pressure-Sodium Lights. These kinds of light fixtures all use an electrical ballast to...

Televisions used to be hot, heavy, power-hungry beasts that sat in the corner of your living room. Not any more! Now they're slim enough to hang on the wall and they use a fraction as much energy as they used to. Like laptop computers, most new televisions have flat screens with LCDs (liquid-crystal displays)—the same technology we've been using for years in things like calculators, cellphones, and digital watches. What are they and how do they work? Let's take a closer look!

Photo: Small LCDs like this one have been widely used in calculators and digital watches since the 1970s, but they were relatively expensive in those days and produced only black-and-white (actually, dark-blueish and white) images. During the 1980s and 1990s, manufacturers figured out how to make larger color screens at relatively affordable prices. That was when the market for LCD TVs and color laptop computers really...

Advanced and Delayed Sleep Phase Treated With Bright Light

Let me explain about body clocks. We really do have a 24-hour clock inside our bodies. The main body clock is in the brain in a little area called the suprachiasmatic nucleus, smaller than a grain of rice. As the name implies, the suprachiasmatic nucleus lies in the hypothalamus just above (supra) to the optic chiasm, the place behind the eyes where the optic nerves cross. The suprachiasmatic nucleus (or SCN) receives nerve impulses from those optic nerves which come from the eyes. Basically, bright light influences the suprachiasmatic nucleus clock to keep our bodies set to the correct body time. Of course, today, modern digital watches rarely need resetting, but our body clocks can run a bit too fast or too slow like watches did in the good old days. Thousands of years ago when humans were sleeping outside, the light of dawn probably set the suprachiasmatic nucleus each morning, something like great...
