How do I connect several led strips to build a single light panel?

You have all the right parts.

If you didn't want to dim them, this would be simple - just parallel them all to the power supply.

Since you do want to dim them, you need to think about how dimming works. These products are generally PWM dimmers which pulse the LEDs on and off, and the percentage of "on" time decides the brightness. LED amplifiers take this as an input, and pulse their outputs exactly the same. So, the output of the PWM dimmer can be "power" to LED strips, "signal" to amplifiers, or a little of both.

This particular amplifier is 192W, but it's also RGB, which means it's 3 channels (red, green, blue) at apparently 64W per channel. I'd send the same (monochrome) PWM signal to all three RGB inputs, and drive white LED strips off each output.

120v power to your power supply.

12v power to both the dimmer and the amplifier.

Dimmer output split to all 3 inputs on the RGB amplifier.

Dimmer output also drives two LED strips,...

Cutting

Before cutting the LED strip it’s important to understand a number of key aspects relating to this product. The strip can only be cut at the points that are marked. These cut points are clearly shown by a line across the strip as you can see here.

The cutting distance for LED strip varies. In the samples we have here you can see the cut distance is 100mm for LED strips with 30 LED’s per metre, 50mm for strip with 60 LED’s per metre, 25mm for strips with 120 LED’s per metre and 15mm for strips with 240 LED’s per metre”

Once you have found the cut line marked on the LED strip simply use the scissors to cut directly along the line as demonstrated here.

Its important to note that LED Strip must ONLY be cut at the specified marks. Cutting the strip in the wrong place will result in some of the LED’s in the cut area not working.

In this example, you can see that the strip has been cut incorrectly. There are two LED’s not lit. Whilst here you can...

An LED light panel is a lighting source made of a flat sheet with light created by light emitting diodes, AKA, LEDs. The light is spread evenly through the panel’s distribution system.

As a semiconductor, a Light Emitting Diode (LED) converts electricity into light using less energy. LED lights are easy to handle and since they also save energy and last awhile, they are considered a good substitute for conventional fluorescent tubes and incandescent lamps for indoor as well as outdoor lighting; a perfect choice when it comes to cost and practicality.

LED light panels can be used for under-shelf or under-cabinetry lighting, for retail displays and signage, as office lights in drop ceilings, and as decorative accents for an improved and sophisticated indoor look. Gather your materials and follow these steps to make your own LED light panel.

Step 1 – Purchase Materials

I've been working on a project for a few months now and it's getting to the point where people are suggesting DMX as a method to control our RGB LED Strips.

The LED Strip I have is 60ppm (LEDs per meter), and each LED is individually addressable. It runs on 5VDC.

In the attached images you can see the connection options for this LED Strip. To control color to each of the 60 RGB LEDs, there is only a single data line. Additionally there are two more connections for 5VDC and GND.

I've gotten basic animations and interactions programmed with one LED strip and an Arduino using the Fast LED Library. Moving forward though, I want to have more complex animations with many more LED Strips in different locations all being controlled by a master device. When I tell this to people, they recommend I use DMX (you can see some discussion of this from my partner on the vvvv forum - along with videos and other issues we've been having).

Since then I've been looking into...

One great advantage offered by the DMX protocol is the ability to link together as many DMX receivers as you wish. Then they can all be managed through one controller, giving you fully synchronised control.

DMX LED strip example 2:

For larger projects, you’ll probably choose different LED controls – perhaps a computer-based interface. This will give you more functionality. You can set up each DMX LED strip receiver to be controlled individually. (This could be each area of a restaurant, or each room in a hotel). Once the system is installed, you’ll be able to preset times for your lights to come on and their, or even programme them to flash or pulse.

The control given by a DALI system is almost limitless – whether you want to dim to different levels in different parts of your restaurant, or control hundreds of strobing disco lights in a club or on a stage.

What is RF dimming?

RF (‘radio frequency’) LED dimming lets you set and adjust your...

The rise of LED lighting has been stratospheric, and it’s easy to see why. They are cheap to produce, consume significantly less power than other lighting options, and in most cases don’t get hot, making them safe for a variety of uses.

One of the most common LED products is the LED strip. In this article, we will cover how to set up the two most common types with an Arduino. These projects are very simple, and even if you are a beginner with Arduino Getting Started With Arduino: A Beginner's Guide or DIY electronics Beginner's Electronics: 10 Skills You Need to Know , you will be able to do this.

We will also use the Arduino IDE to control them. This project uses an Arduino Uno, though you could use almost any compatible board (such as the NodeMCU Meet the Arduino Killer: ESP8266 ).

Hi all,

First post on here, was stumped earlier as I don't deal with LED's that often (very rare infact).

Basically I am making 4 panels, with several LED's. All to have White LED's. At any one time, only 2 of the panels will be illuminated. They are Marker lights for a full size train, so the White LED's will go behind 2 Clear Lenses & 2 RED Lenses.

I decided it would be a good idea to try ebay and buy a load of strip lights (SMD sort), but the light output isn't as great as I would have hoped for. (their not here to project light, purely marker lights). Looking at the LED strip lights i've made will give you an idea of what i'm trying to do but with stripboard. Possibly 5 columns of LED's is what i'm after - basically to make it more brighter & more uniform in such a small space.

I am looking at buying these for the boards (never worked with the stuff):

1.) Soldering Tools

Before attempting to solder wire to your LED Strip Lights it is important to be sure that you have the proper tools for your soldering project. We recommend using any 30W-60W soldering iron that is temperature adjustable and capable of soldering at around 500°-600°F. It is best to use a more powerful iron so that you don't need to spend a lot of time heating the joint, which can damage components. At the same time too hot of an iron can also damage the components. We also recommend using a thin rosin core solder and having a wet sponge or steal pad for cleaning the tip of your solder iron.

2.) Waterproofing Tools

It is important to have the right waterproofing accessories for the type of job that you are doing. We use industrial strength glue, heat shrink, and liquid tape when necessary; all waterproofing items can be found at your local hardware store.
