How to make custom concrete brick?

While a plain concrete brick wall is sturdy and serviceable, it's not exactly the most attractive addition to your home and may call for some customization. Stucco is a durable surface treatment that covers concrete block or bricks with little preparation. There are several finishing techniques that provide attractive textures in plain stucco, but it can still need some enhancement when you want a look that makes a bolder statement. One of these methods is to decorate the stucco with rocks.

Inspect the wall. It must be clean and in good condition. Make any necessary repairs before you start your work..

Apply thin strips of wood, 3/8 inch thick, to the top and bottom of your concrete brick wall with masonry nails. You might need more if your wall is very tall; these strips enable you to smooth out your work to a uniform thickness later.

Apply a concrete bonding agent to the wall and let it dry to help the stucco stick more securely.

Dampen the wall. This...

My partner wanted something for edging the flower beds and footpaths in our garden. Last summer she edged some of the paths with red bricks. Unfortunately, some of the bricks started to disintegrate over the winter. It was a shame as she had put so much effort into it. So I decided to do something about it.

There were several options: sort through the bricks and find the ones that would (maybe) be a bit more durable, buy something suitable at the DIY store, or make something myself. I chose the latter.

In the end the casting process is probably more expensive than buying something, but all the materials for building the form are recycled, the concrete bricks have a more natural look, and that, surely, is what it is all about.............

Another advantage is that you can cast concrete bricks in exactly the size you need. I wanted something about the size of a brick - 300x150mm, but a little thicker - 100mm - to give them more stability as we are laying them in...

Mold generally occurs in damp areas. It is, at best, an unsightly nuisance and, at worst, a health hazard. If you have mold growing on concrete driveways, brick walkways or paving stone patios around your home, the first thing to do is to make sure your children and pets do not have access to the area until you can remove the mold.

Mold spores can cause a variety of physical symptoms, including shortness of breath, aggravated asthma, sinus congestion, coughing, itchy eyes and much more.

Of course, there is a difference between common molds (like we see on food and sometimes on structures) and the toxic black mold that we hear about on the news. If you think you have toxic black mold growing on your paving stones, concrete or bricks, it is best to bring in mold remediation experts who can safely remove this potential health hazard.

If you have a bit of mold or algae on your exterior surfaces and would like to take care of it yourself, here are some basic...

The major difference between both of them is compressive strength.

Compressive strength is the property of any material to with stand pressure.

Going by the materials clay bricks and concrete bricks are made, the concrete bricks have much more compressive strength.

Second difference is water resistance.

Concrete bricks have more water resistance and don't absorb water, this makes them almost waterproof and is always beneficial for construction activities.

The shelf life of concrete is lesser than those of clay bricks. Concrete works good for around 60 to 100 years, while clay bricks have been known to last for 1000 years and more.

Concrete blocks are not environmental friendly, while clay bricks are made up of natural resources, and other than the baking of bricks, everything is fine with the environment.

Finally, as an architect, there is beauty in clay bricks and strength in concrete...
