Welcome to our gallery featuring living rooms with ceiling fans!

Ceiling fans are pretty underrated.

They hang around, unnoticed, doing their job and pushing air around. But they can also be the perfect things to top off a room.

Ceiling fans come in so many different styles, designs, and colors there is sure to be a ceiling fan to fit any room you may need one in. They’re not just functional; ceiling fans can be stylish!

You can get low-profile fans, as in the image above, so they blend in and continue to go unnoticed. Install a unique fan, like a palm leaf or a dual fan, and put a showcase piece in your room,

Use an accent color or complement a modern design with a sleek fan, the possibilities really are endless.

Different blade shapes can also help define the look of a room as well as what sort of air flow you will have. Everyone knows the standard blade shape, tried and true, but did you know that having bigger fan blades doesn’t...

Keep the air fresh throughout your home when you buy ceiling fans for your living room. Whether you want lighted ceiling fan styles for easy elegance or remote ceiling fans for convenience, these suggestions can help you buy ceiling fans that complement your home and provide adequate air flow throughout the years. Read on for tips on buying ceiling fans for your living room.

Buy ceiling fans that work with your ceiling height. Indoor ceiling fans need to be hung higher than 7 feet above the floor, which means that you'll need a ceiling at least 8 feet high. If you have a low ceiling, you'll want to buy hugger ceiling fans, which sit close to the ceiling. During the summer and winter, indoor ceiling fans that can be lowered with a down-rod are especially effective, as they can circulate both cool and warm air at a faster rate in your home. Many contemporary ceiling fans allow you to reverse the airflow in the winter to move warm air from the ceiling downward.

When we got our whole-house rewiring done earlier this year, I mentioned that we added a few not-strictly-necessary lighting upgrades — things that would be nice to do eventually, but that we probably would have waited on if we hadn’t had the electrical work done. (To read about the serious electrical problems that prompted the rewiring, check out this post, and I’ve also written about the finished rewiring process here and the damage it meant for our walls here.) So in the interest of catching up on the backlog of house-related things that have gotten done around here but haven’t made it to the blog, today’s post features the ceiling fan we added to the living room.

When we first moved into our house, the living room ceiling hinted that it may have once had some kind of ceiling fan or light fixture, since there was this weird little plastic nipple thing smack in the middle of the ceiling:

Summer is the time of the year when we always try to find a way to cool ourselves from the high temperatures. Yes, air conditioners are great and they chill the air in our homes, but I found ceiling fans better option since they push the air around and are great for both, cooling and heating. Apart they can be installed in any room in your home, ceiling fans can be also used on an open or screened porch. In this way, they create a beautiful refreshing retreat.

If you are interested in buying ceiling fans and install them on an open, make sure the fans are rated for wet or damp location. You can look for outdoor fans with weatherproof fan blades, too. Both types can handle moisture, but damp fans should not come in contact with water while wet fans are suitable for rainy or coastal areas. Before start with the buying process, there are few important things that need to be considered. Follow this guide so you can make the most informed decision and choose the right...

If that plain old wood-and-whatever ceiling fan in your living room isn’t quite generating enough airflow for your liking, perhaps you’d consider a jet engine instead. Well, maybe not an actual jet engine, but at least a fan built using jet engine parts, like this one by Phighter Images, which sells all kinds of aviation parts that have been repurposed for the home.

Sourced from a Pratt & Whitney JT8 engine, this ridiculously cool ceiling fan measures and impressive 39 inches in diameter, and is controlled via remote. It’s a bit smaller than the nearly 50-inch diameter of an actual JT8D fan, but it’s probably a better fit for most rooms at its somewhat shrunken size anyway.

Phighter Images even sells a second version, based on the General Electric GE9X engine, with a different blade style, if you’re after an extremely specific look. Oh, and they’ll even sell you an engine cowl ring to go along with it, so you can complete the “there’s an engine sticking out of...

Stay “on task.”

Reading, watching TV, scrapbooking, playing games…consider all of the “tasks” that happen in your living room, and light accordingly.

For reading chairs, position the light’s shade below eye level to avoid glare.
Emphasize and spotlight entertainment centers with
LED tape lighting. Add hard strip lighting behind a
flat-screen TV hanging on the wall;
it will provide interest to a dark area
when the unit is not in use.

Take Control.

Lighting remote controls and dimmer switches provide added versatility – creating a light source that’s customizable to your needs and mood.

Dimmer switches are especially useful with living room lighting, allowing you to adjust a light to “full on” when kids are doing homework or turn the lights down for TV...

Like many retailers, LightingDirect.com can choose to set its own prices independently. And even though manufacturers require LightingDirect.com and other retailers to display a product's "minimum advertised price" (or MAP), the retailer can choose to sell for less than that. But the price must be conveyed in other ways, and each individual manufacturer's MAP policy determines where the price can be seen.

To see the price for this product at LightingDirect.com, you'll need to place it in your shopping cart, and maybe even proceed to final checkout. If you're not ready to buy the product, simply remove it from the cart.

LightingDirect.com apologizes for any inconvenience. We'd just like to offer you the chance to save extra money while we adhere to manufacturers' MAP policies. LightingDirect.com is also working to educate manufacturers on how their policies impact customers and their buying...

Why We Love Ceiling Fans

Less expensive than running the air conditioning during the summer, ceiling fans cool the home in an economical and designer-friendly manner. Energy efficient ceiling fans, including DC ceiling fans and fans with integrated LED light kits, in particular offer even larger cuts in costs due to their eco-friendly design. And today's modern ceiling fans provide the perfect breeze in the summer and help circulate warmer air in the winter. Ceiling fan styles range from ultra-contemporary stainless steel designs to traditional builder fan options and work within a number of established themes. There's really no reason to not enjoy the benefits of these decorative ceiling fans.

Where Ceiling Fans Work Best

Honestly, because of all of the available styles of ceiling fans, there's really no room where a fan won't work. In large, open spaces like living rooms and great rooms, a ceiling fan with a blade span of 52" or more is your best bet....
