Curved staircase

This design is an excellent example of a bespoke curved staircase incorporating a turn of 150°.

To achieve as clean and fluid a turn as possible, a curved landing was included between steps 10 and 12, allowing an uninterrupted curve over the entire flight.

Because this staircase is enclosed on all sides, we used curved wall strings to mount the treads.

The pictures on the right show another of our stunning curved staircases. See Case Study no. 2 for more details, photographs and design drawings.

Acute turn

For this staircase, our customer required a design which would be compatible with the acute turn of the stairwell, without compromising on appearance.

To fit the space, Pear Stairs designed a staircase with an acute turn of 38°. This was achieved by glueing together two triangular quarter newels (cut from large newels) to form a central newel post. This meant we were able...

An oak staircase can be built in the staircase hotspot of the Dungeon, Quest Hall, and Skill Hall in a player-owned house. It requires 27 Construction, 10 oak planks, 4 steel bars, a saw, and a hammer to build. When built, it earns the player 680 experience.

The direction that non-spiral staircases face when built can be chosen from any angle that the room is built, as all rooms, after selection and prior to building, can be rotated with all of the room's hotspots visible. By default, the stairs will slope down away from the direction it is built, and must be rotated clockwise or anticlockwise twice in order to face the player.

Other complications associated with staircases involve adding rooms, or changing the staircase.

A staircase added to a Skill Hall on the regular level will prompt you to build it "Up" or "Down". When building an "Up" staircase, then attempting to climb the staircase, the construction interface will ask if you want to add a room at the...

Stairs with landings are very common when designing and building stairs. There are several reasons why you would need to add a landing, or series of landings, to your stair plan.

Deck stairs with landing

International Building Code states that a flight of stairs shall not have a vertical rise greater than 12 feet between floors or landings.

Calculating Stairs with Landings

Sometimes you don't have the room for a long straight run of stairs. Or you may want to break up a long run of stairs with a landing as a place to rest or take in a particular view of a room or outdoor scene before continuing on.

There are also situations where the slope of the terrain changes from point to point and a series of level walkways will be required between runs of stairs.

In the following sections, I will explain both scenarios in more detail....
