Philips Hue dimmer switch detailed manual

1

The new Philips Hue compatible dimmer switch is the next special product to make use of your Hue Lamps in your home. It’s also the cheapest accessory you can get, from Philips that will enhance your smart hue lighting project. Most of us seemed confused on what is the difference between the Dimmer Switch and the Hue Tap switch which was released a few years ago.

The two unique features that the Hue Dimmer Switch has over the Tap, is that it doesn’t require a bridge to function and that it is battery-powered. Although you will get more features if you use it with a Hue bridge 2.0

So after 6 months of owning both, its time to give you all a quick rundown on our day-to-day use. Plus the procedure we used to hack them up a little to get the most out our little dimmer.

Hue Compatible Dimmer Switch Features

One the best switches you can get for your Hue system is the Hue Dimmer switch – it supports short and long presses, and double taps (using 3rd party...

Simon Aquilina: If you press on again it will change up to 4 different scenes

C Lo: Bravo nice video

Jenica Amasol: question
if the internet connection is interupted for two days or more , can you still use the phillips tap and dimmer switch to turn on the lights

Danny A. Ignacio: you forget to mention that you can program the dimmer to change scenes, you need to press the ON bottom 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 times and voila

Adrian Kielbowicz: Can the dimmer switch on/off two sets of lights? My currect living room light switch has two buttons to switch light bulbs 1234 and 5678 on or off (total of 8 bulbs in the ceiling). Can the same be accomplished with a single dimmer switch?

Alex H: I dunno if anyone mentioned that you can program ON button on the remote to change scenes.

Alexis Aguero: I wish the switch was backlit but great...

Philips has a new remote control for its hue wireless lights in the pipeline, along with a brighter version of its color-changing bulb. The new products, revealed during regulatory testing at the FCC, include an update on the original hue bulb with an 800 lumen version. However, it’s the new Hue Dimmer Switch which is arguably more interesting, given how it potentially addresses a common complaint among those with the remote-controlled bulbs installed in their homes.

The Dimmer Switch is a compact, four button remote dedicated to adjusting Hue lights. As well as being intended for portable use, it will come with a mount that sticks to a wall for use like a more traditional switch.

According to the FCC documentation, the remote tips the scales at 67g and measures in at 35 x 92 x 11 mm. On the wall meanwhile, it’ll be 70 x 115 x 14 mm.

Either way, ZigBee range is 12 meters (39 feet). Interestingly, according to the sparse user guide, it appears that the Hue...

The switches are easy to set up with the Hue app. Choose the gear, add accessory, first time set up, pull the tab on the remote, hit "light blinking" and wait. The first one took almost the full three minutes to be found. After that, choose what light(s) you want to control, and your ready to use. That's how the first one set up, but not the second. After trying, resetting, and retrying, I gave up and called tech support. After three attempts with them, they deemed the unit defective. Sent me a free return label and even (unknown to me) a pick up from FedEx at my door. About a week and a half later, a new one arrived and set up as it should. These are wall mountable with the actual controller magnetically mounted to the wall plate, so that you can move it to temporarily control the lights away from the mount and then return when done. On/Off as well as brighten and dimming - no scene selections, but that is available on the Hue phone app and would have been overkill on these...

This laptop came for repair because of the LCD screen backlight failure. My customer complained that the laptop LCD screen is black but the laptop works with an external monitor.
Here are my steps for troubleshooting this laptop with the backlight failure.

First of all, I tested this laptop with an external monitor connected to the VGA port and the external monitor worked absolutely fine. I was able to get crystal clear image on the external screen even though the internal screen didn’t light up. If the external screen works fine, then most likely there is nothing wrong with the video card.

Notebook display assembly diagram

After that I took a closer look at the laptop LCD and noticed that the screen is not completely black. The laptop screen still works but the image is very very dull, you barely can see it. It means that the screen still gets data signal from the video card, but for some reason the backlight lamp doesn’t work.
From my experience I...
