Replace pop-up with flip sink drain covers?

I had my house replumbed to code and put new sink basins in with pop up wastes. But I find that the water drains slowly, and the brand I'm using breaks easily so that they don't click in and out. I've already replaced one, and another has broken.

Also they drain better if I remove the plug bit by unscrewing it, though but not needing to removing the whole assembly as pictured.

Would I be better off with a flip waste like this one?

And is there a drop in replacement?

Edit: Are there any people who can answer on the physics of these things? It seems a circular drain with a cap on it viz. popup waste, might cause more drainage issues then a flip waste due to the symmetry? Or is there no...

Set a bucket under the sink trap to catch any water remaining in the lines. Loosen the nut that attaches the straight pipe or tailpiece from the drain to the sink trap, or "S" shaped pipe, with channel lock pliers. The trap connects the sink drain to the main wall drain. Pull the trap away from the tail pipe.

Stand at the top of the sink and lift out the sink drain basket. Scrape off any putty between the drain flange and sink.

Wrap a rope of plumber's putty beneath the flange of the new sink drain basket. Push the drain body through the opening from below the sink. You may need another person to lower the drain basket from the top. The other person should stop lowering it when it cannot go any farther.

Pull down the drain pipe and tighten the nut and washer to the sink with channel lock pliers until the sink basket fits tight.

Push a slip nut over the lower part of the tailpipe. Wind three layers of plumber's tape around the threads or tapered...

Pop-ups are simple mechanical devices that use a system of links and levers to move a drain stoppers up and down to seal a sink bowl or bathtub.

How a Sink Pop-Up Works

Bathroom sink pop-ups are raised and lowered with a lift knob or lever, usually located on or near the faucet body. The knob or lever is connected to a lift rod that is fastened to a flat, slotted bar called a “clevis.”

The clevis is connected by a small spring clip to a pivot rod–and–ball assembly—a rod that runs through a rubber pivot ball and slopes slightly upward to the tailpiece of the stopper. This pushes the stopper up or...

Assemble the overflow pipe. The drain-waste-overflow pipe assembly must be positioned correctly. Place the rubber gasket on top of the waste overflow, which is the top opening of the pipe. Align the drain tailpiece at the bottom of the pipe with the tub drain hole.

Apply plumber's putty around the bottom part of the drain flange. Place a thick layer that covers the bottom of the flange. Clean any putty off the bathtub immediately to avoid having it dry and stick to the tub surface.

Place the drain flange in the hole of the tub, on the bottom. Adjust it within the hole, and screw the drain flange into the drain tailpiece opening. Make sure it is secure, but not overly tight in case it needs to be adjusted later.

Purchase the trip lever and drain hardware. These components can be found at any hardware or home improvement store. Choose something that will fit tastefully with the decorative theme of the bathroom.

Pop-up drains are common in bathroom sinks and baths, although they function differently. A sink's pop-up assembly consists of the plug, lifter rod and drain tube, as well as various nuts and washers. By moving the lifter rod up or down, the sink can go from free-flowing to plugged for the purposes of filling the sink with water. A bath tub's pop-up plug or stopper is screwed into the tub's drain, and is either of a spring-loaded or twist-and-pull design. Either style of pop up may leak over time and must be replaced.
