String trimmer slits bottom screen door

i have a anderson screen door and the bottom left roller looking out is broken how do i replace it

Sorry the message above really doesn't say how to remove the old rollers. While the diagram is helpful it doesn't say or show how to squeeze the clips that hold the roller in place. In order to squeeze a clip there is a very small pin hole on either side of the bottom of the roller. You should be able to see the holes right next to each end of the two plastic tabs. Insert any rigid tool that fits in the hole to depress the clip. If you start on the rear roller that's all you should need to do to remove the entire roller assembly

how do I adjust the andersen bootom roller? there's a hole above the wheel with a slot for a screwdriver, but the slot will not turn either way. I pulled the wheel assembly and don't understand what the adjust is supposed to do: there's a flat top and a curved bottom; there are notches in the curved part. Am I at the TOP if I'm on the last notch?...

If you’re looking for a sliding screen door replacement, you’ve probably figured out it isn’t the easiest thing to change out. There are too many factors at play making a broken sliding screen door fit and work as it once did. Fortunately, there are some alternatives to help you replace your sliding screen door and get it working again.

Chances are you use your sliding screen door a lot. In warm months your family makes frequent trips in and out of the house to the back yard. Your kids don’t treat the door with the utmost care (hey, they’re kids), and if you have pets, they too contribute to excessive wear and tear. And us adults… So many times, our hands are full so we slide doors open in awkward ways that are rough on the screen door’s frame and rollers.

Over time, all this use (err…misuse and abuse!) adds up forcing you to replace your sliding screen door.

Just buy a new screen door?

Here’s the scoop: It’s not that simple. The reason? Well, as with...

Replace torn screening

Photo 1: Remove the old screening

Pull out the old spline and remove the old screen. Cut a new piece of screen about 4 in. wider and longer than the old one. Also cut four pieces of new spline, making each a couple of inches longer than the sides of the frame.

Photo 2: Roll in new spline

Clamp the screen to one long side of the frame. On the opposite side, roll the spline into the groove, stretching the screen as you go. Remove the clamps and add spline on the other side. Repeat the process on the short sides.

Photo 3: Spline roller close-up

A spline roller has a concave wheel and a convex wheel. Use the concave end first. When all four splines are in place, roll them again, this time with the convex wheel.

Photo 4: Trim excess screening

Trim off the excess screen with a utility knife. Put a sharp new blade in the knife and pull it carefully along the spline.

Unlike lawn mowers and other such yard equipment which is normally used in one orientation, trimmers, chainsaws, and hedge cutters must be used at all sorts of angles.

A lawn mower has a vent in the gas tank cap to allow air into the tank as gas leaves it. If the tank wasn't vented to atmospheric pressure, this would restrict the flow of gas out of the tank. (Turn a large soda bottle filled with water upside down and you'll see what I mean).

55 gallon oil drums also have a secondary bung which needs to be loosened to vent the drum, enabling smooth flow from the main outlet during emptying. On a lawn mower, the vent is just a hole with a fiber or plastic baffle inside the cap to stop gas splashing out. This isn't good enough on a trimmer if the tank is turned upside down, so a one way valve (check valve) is used.

This valve may be fitted in the cap of the gas tank or on the body of the tank itself.

The valve allows air in but gas can't leak back out. This...

When a screen door becomes warped, it usually does so because of excessive force being exerted on it, such as slamming the door shut or even not properly propping it open. The good thing is that warped screen doors are easy enough to repair as long as you know what you are doing.

Step 1 –Figure Out Where the Warp Is

You want to figure out which part of the door is hitting the doorjamb first—top or bottom. This will show you where the door is warped.

Step 2 – Quick Fix Method

Place a pencil between the doorjamb and the door in the location of where the door is striking the doorjamb first. Leave the pencil in place for 30 minutes. Take the pencil out to see if the door has started to straighten. If the door has begun to straighten, but is still slightly warped you will want to repeat the pencil in the door method. Do this a few more times until the screen door is no longer warped.

Step 3 – If the Quick Fix Method Doesn’t Work

If the...

I am adding new door casing/trim to my interior doors after replacing the frames. I was planning on using between 2" and 2 1/2" wide casing and didn't want to go any narrower since I needed that much to cover up the drywall dings, etc next to the frame.

My problem is that one bedroom door is at the end of the hall, and the space between the frame and the wall on both sides of the hall are less than two inches. To further complicate things, the walls aren't real straight since the measurements from where the casing would start to the wall varies from 1 1/4 inches at the bottom to almost 1 1/2 inches at the top. The casing has to go right to the wall since due to the shims, there is nothing there but air.

So how do I approach this problem? Do I buy the same size casing (2 inches) for all doors and cut the ones for this one door down with a table saw or buy a different width trim for this one door, or what?

Another question is if it's ok to nail the trim to...

Thanks ewalk. I am in no way really good at tuning. I have to read it each time I do it (2 or 3 times/year). I really need to get a tach per their recommendations. More toys ;).

I don't know if you or others noticed but on that page, they have a link to a sound file of how a saw sounds being tuned. It's quite helpful in case any of the terms are not familiar.

As for setting the needle valve lever, more experienced folks may have more input than me. I have not messed with my needle valve levers. If I had to, I would not know how to set it. I think you bend the lifter to adjust its behavior, but I am not positive on that. Of the few carb rebuilds I have done, it was gaskets and diaphragm only. The other stuff went to the parts...

The traditional method of screening a porch has pretty much remained the same for a hundred years. That's unfortunate, because it's a flawed system. Small tacks or staples are used to attach the screening to the porch posts and railings. Then, narrow wood battens are nailed up to conceal all of the seams and fasteners.

It's a labor-intensive method, and screens installed this way typically develop noticeable sags after just a few months. Plus, when it's necessary to replace a damaged screen or fix a sagging one, you must remove several battens and yank out about a million fasteners.

But there is a much better and easier way to install screens, and it doesn't require a lot of experience. This project will show you how to rescreen an existing porch using the Screen Tight installation system. You can use the same techniques detailed here for new and remodeled porches, deck enclosures, breezeways and gazebos.
