What does it mean when a lamp/led starts blinking randomly?

LED drivers are generally switching power supplies, which apply pulses of power to keep themselves charged to the level the LED needs. One side effect of this is that if there's a trickle of power available, they will still try to charge up, turn on the LED, immediately run out of power, and repeat. It's a complicated form of a "relaxation oscillator."

If your switch has a light or remote-control circuit that is powered by allowing a trickle of current through the load, or if you have a dimmer which fades far down but isn't cutting off completely, you'll get this effect.

For what it's worth, sample-to-sample variation means that different LED bulbs will blink at different rates for a given underpowering level. I have a 16-bulb fixture in my living room which, when faded down, does a nice imitation of christmas tree lights, "randomly" blinking in unpredictable...

On the light bulb flashing problem:

Causing the LED light bulb flashing or a light off a total of four possibilities:

1): LED lamp beads and LED drive power does not match the normal single foot 1W lamp beads to withstand current: 280-300mA, voltage: 3.0-3.4V, if the lamp beads chip is not enough power will cause light light strobe , The current is too high lamp beads can not afford to light up a destroy, serious phenomenon will be built-in lamp beads or copper wire burned, resulting in lamp beads does not shine.

2): may be driver power is broken, as long as the exchange of another good drive power, it does not flash.

3): If the driver has over-temperature protection function, and the lamp material heat dissipation performance can not meet the requirements, drive over temperature protection began to work will have a flash off a phenomenon, such as: 20W cast light shell used to assemble 30W lamps , Heat work is not done will be like this.

4): If...

This would be "Standby"
When you press standby, the display and audio turn off and a blank screen is displayed for 15 minutes.
You can change the amount of time the projector stays in standby mode; see “Standby Time” on page 27 for details.
The LED lights orange while the projector is in standby.
• If you press standby again within 15 minutes, the projector returns to normal operations immediately. The LED changes from orange to green.
• If you press standby again after 15 minutes, there is about a 60 second delay before the lamp turns back on. The LED flashes green while the lamp is re-lighting.
• If you don’t press standby again, the lamp turns off after 15 minutes. The LED lights orange while the projector is in standby.

I hope these help

I have a MSI Z77 MPOWER motherboard which has A LOT of LEDs on it. I know there is a debug LED, CPU Phase LEDs, and power LEDs. However, there is one LED at the very bottom of the board, where the power/reset/led/usb pins/connectors are. Right above the power supply (in a full tower case with a bottom mounted power supply). This LED seems to blink at random intervals (almost exactly like a hard drive activity light, or a light bulb that is flickering as it looses power). I have absolutely no idea which LED this is, and I'm curious. It's also a cause for concern that if I put my ear up close, I can here this really odd noise that I honestly can't describe whenever the LED is on. It goes away immediately when the LED is not shining. I can't tell if it's coming from the motherboard, or the power supply, since that are literally centimeters from eachother. Any...

The indicator lights on your Samsung TV report the current status of your TV. These indicator lights can indicate that your TV is operating normally, or can specifically indicate that your TV is overheating, needs a lamp bulb replacement or if some other internal error is causing the set to malfunction.

Lamp Light

A blinking lamp light is an indication that the lamp bulb is warming up. The bulb can take up to 15 seconds to warm up and display a picture while the lamp light is blinking. Check your TV to see if other indicator lights are flashing if a picture does not display after 15 seconds.

Auto-Timer Light

The auto-timer light turns on prior to the auto-timer setting turning on. The auto-timer can be set to turn your TV off after a set time. You may interrupt the auto-timer with your remote while the auto-timer light is on. If you interrupt the auto-timer, your TV remains on.

I think the short answer to this question, of how to do longer strings of LEDs, is: SCRs or TRIACs

The longer answer lies in the text below this line.

The 100-LED, 8-function, lights, with single-button control box, that I mentioned in an earlier reply here, those lights use a single SCR to control each series string. For example, 4 SCRs controlling 4 strings of 25 LEDs each.

I found a data sheet for this 8-function SCR driver IC, sort of. Actually what I found is a data sheet for an IC with the same pins, as an IC I found inside one of these 8-function fairy lights gizmos. The name of this IC is "M80056B"

And you should look at this data sheet, because it has a circuit diagram, that sort of explains how the thing works.

Curiously, the numbers I have seen actually printed on the light-string gizmos I have, are...

Jamie wants to know whether strange electrical activity could be a sign of paranormal activity. She writes:

Hi Michelle! I have a spirit here in our apartment. I have heard him speak before; I have felt his presence, and even caught an EVP of him. The past couple days, I noticed something strange: the nightlight in our guest bathroom turned a VERY bright white and then burned out….and last night, the lights on our ficus tree did the same thing (the lights got so bright that it woke me up…was like a sunlight)..and then they burned out, too.

Is this a sign of paranormal activity? I never heard of anything like this, with the exception of lights flickering and going off and on..all of which we have had in the past month as well. Thanks so much.

Here are solutions to the six most common projector problems that happen after installing a new projector lamp!

Sometimes things don’t go a planned after installing a projector lap. Here are the solutions to the six most common projector problems.

Problem #1: My projector won’t turn on after I’ve installed my new lamp.

Solution: Check the power cord, lamp cover and lamp connections.

Before contacting customer service, be sure to first check that the projector power cord is plugged in and properly secured. Check the back lamp cover – if it’s loose the projector won’t turn on. If this doesn’t solve the problem, then open up the lamp cover and check the lamp connections. If the screws are too loose or too tight, the projector will not turn on.

Problem #2: My projector is getting too hot after replacing the lamp

Solution: Clean your air filters and ventilation holes.

The main reason a projector starts to heat up is because the air...
