My 1042 Power Humidifier has water under the PVC pipe leading from the unit into the drain. Does that mean the unit itself is leaking water?

Hi, if the unit is leaking and it looks as though it is coming from the PVC pipe, more then likely its leaking at the unit its self where the pipe connects. Water will run down the pipe and drip down line. Dry it off and put your hand around where the PVC pipe screws into unit. Unless the pipe is cracked, this is where the leak is. If the fitting is a male or female threaded PVC fitting and a piece of PVC pipe that goes to the drain, you can repair this very easy. Just cut the pipe near the fitting with a hacksaw. Unscrew the fitting that goes to unit. Go to a hardware store like Home Depot, take the old fitting with you and buy a replacement. Buy a coupling, a small can of clear PVC glue and a small can or tube of pipe dope to put on the fitting threads. Screw the fitting in first and make sure it has pipe dope on it,...

There are a several options when choosing a shower drain for your preformed shower base installation. Your choice depends on your shower pan and your situation. And the type of pipe you have in your home may help determine which shower drain material you should buy. The manufacturer’s recommendations for both the shower pan and the drain may also help you determine which shower drain to buy.

Keep in mind that shower drains are made to fit 2" drain pipe. Two-inch pipe is the recommended pipe... size because showers have a low threshold for flooding, and 2" pipe helps the water drain faster than does a 1 1/2" pipe. So, if you are converting from a tub and shower combination to a shower, you'll likely have to change drain pipe size.

Now let's take a look at some typical shower drains and a quick explanation of how to install...

Vinegar is a more natural and green way to clean but not necessarily tough enough. If you're gonna use vinegar on drains, pore it down straight off the stove-piping hot! If you're not apposed, try CLR or Drain-o. If it's really visible, soak an old washcloth and let it sit on the spot. You could poke the cloth through some of the spots so it can touch as much as possible. Pouring it will bypass soaking the area you want to soak. Like cleaning an old tub that had gross caulking. you wouldn't just pour bleach, you would soak a towel and place it on the caulk so it can stay on the spot. Where gloves; and rinse the tub/shower well. It can be very slippery, and again, you do not want it touching...

Gonna try and un-hijack this thread!

It looks like the drain is molded to the shower pan, but I will pull off the baseboard in front of the shower to see better. Hopefully this will give me more info.

I did some tests, and the flexing is so minimal, that I can barely get a razorblade between the drain and floor of the shower, now I am not convinced the flexing is my trouble.

If I go into the kitchen and grab the ptrap and try and move it, my wife says the shower drain moves from side to side a little, but if I push up on it, no movement (I was hoping pushing it up would allow me to add more silcone under it, but not gonna happen.

I wonder if the trap, like you said "dropped out". This was no minor leak last night while my wife was showering, this was probably 3/4 gallon a minute coming down the drain pipe.

I did not paint this, so it might be - as you said - someone's effort to cover up an already failed shower. When we bought the...

This could be caused from any number of things. Assuming you've got shower doors, are the drain holes in the track facing the shower or the bathroom? We had this problem when we realized the idiot who lived here before had used silicone to plug up the holes that were facing the shower. You'd just use kitchen & bath or silicone caulk when seating the drain. Check for any little cracks around it. Plug up the shower drain and fill the shower pan. Leak? If this isn't the case, you need to check your plumbing, you may have a leak there. Take your drain cover off and insert a garden hose, turning it on for a few minutes and looking for water around your shower. If that's all good, then check out the wall pipes. Check the shower head, plug off the pipe and run for a few minutes again. Hope this...

Most modern bathrooms contain plastic drain pipes made out of PVC, or polyvinyl chloride. This material transports nonpotable water down sink drains and other plumbing fixtures. PVC pipes under sinks include the P-trap that connects the drain to the house plumbing. Such pipes can be connected using threaded pieces or with glue. Gluing your PVC pipes creates a much stronger and permanent hold that can only be broken by cutting off the pipes. The number and type of pieces that you use under a sink varies widely, but following a two-step process of priming and gluing your pipes will result in the best possible connection no matter how many pieces you use.

Wipe off any excess dirt, dust or other debris from the inside of the PVC pipe fittings.

Shake the can of PVC primer vigorously for 30 seconds to mix the solution and soak the applicator on the inside of the lid.

Remove the applicator and swab a generous amount of primer on the outside of the pipes and on the...
