Feed the cables through the clamps and into the box. The cable sheathing (outer jacket) should extend 1/2 to 1 inch beyond the clamp, and the cable wires should extend about 6 inches into the box. If necessary, trim the wires as needed and strip 3/4 inch of insulation from the each of each wire, using wire strippers.

Secure the cables by tightening the screws on the clamps, being careful not to overtighten and damage the cables. Plastic boxes usually have spring-tabs for clamps and do not require... tightening.

Note: The ends of the individual wires should be clean, straight, and undamaged. Their insulation should be stripped 1/2 to 3/4 inch from the ends. Trim any damaged wires and/or strip insulation as needed, using wire strippers....

The Junction Box is an installation which serves as a hub for power distribution and relaying signals between devices. For this reason, it is usually a crucial part of the submarine's wiring.

The Junction Box can take five different wires each connected to the one power output and the four signal outputs. If junction boxes are provided with 4.000 power units more than used by the connected devices or submerged in water, they overload and become unusable until repaired. This is a potentially dangerous situation, as important installations and items can thus become unpowered during an emergency situation. For this reason, it is usually unwise to connect more than one reactor to a chain of junction boxes without taking precautions. As well, it is best to keep the junction boxes away from water as much as possible.

In order to edit the connections on a junction box, a screwdriver must be equipped in one of the two hand slots, and then the Junction Box left-clicked...

Background:

Junction box? Why, where? A junction box is very handy when you are adding a new outlet or switch and need to tie on to existing wiring or you are modifying wiring and simply need to extend an existing wire run.

Shown below is where I used a junction box to connect 4 outlets to power. By using a junction box, I could route one outlet line at a time.

Hints and tips:

Note: you can buy steel or plastic junction boxes. I do not use steel. If you nick a wire when working with a metal box, it is possible that nicked wire will short against the grounded metal case, if not immediately, then at some future time. A nicked wire in a metal box can be a bear to find. Also, sometimes, I have to work inside a junction box with the power "on" and with a metal box, there is...

Warning: To complete electrical works you must comply with Electrical Regulations – Click here for more information.

Working With Junction Boxes Safely

Part P of the new building regulations could involve a check on any additional circuitry by qualified electricians when you sell your home. This can affect your sale, you could be breaking the law and your house insurance may not be valid. Please be absolutely sure you know what you are doing and get all of your work checked by a qualified electrician. Make sure you turn all power off and isolate the circuits you are working on.

What are Junction Boxes Used for?

Junction boxes can be used to connect additional sockets to circuits, add lighting points, extend circuits, and in general they are a way of getting power from an existing source and taking it somewhere else. They can also be used for repairs.

If a wire has become damaged, the damaged section can be cut out and teh two sections joined...

A new junction box is used to create wire connections, called splices, in the home. Junction box wiring is often attached to electrical outlet or light fixture wiring. By making the splice in the junction box, the risk of electrical fires occurring from the connected wires coming into contact with flammable materials lessens greatly. Once the new junction box is installed in the wall or ceiling, it is ready for the wires to be connected.

Turn off the power at the main circuit breaker box of your home to the room where you are going to install the new junction box.

Insert a plug-in circuit tester into an electrical outlet that is in the room and connected to the same circuit to test and ensure that the power is off, before attempting to add more wiring to your home.

Use a screwdriver and a hammer to punch out the knock-out holes located on the junction box where the cable will be inserted.

Insert cable clamps into the holes that you knocked...

FIG. 12 - New cable can be run along the baseboard to a new outlet.

FIG. 13 - Cut an opening in the wall opposite the existing box.

FIG. 14 - If the new box is not near a stud, it can be held in place by box supports.

ADDING NEW WIRING ON THE SAME WALL

You can connect new cable from an existing outlet to a new outlet on the same wall by running it inside the wall (Fig. 12). Mark the approximate location of the new outlet. Using a stud finder locate and mark the wall studs. Start one stud before the existing outlet and end one stud after the new outlet.

Mark the exact location of the new box. Make it the same height as the existing box. Do not locate it over a stud. Using a drywall or keyhole saw, cut the opening for the new box. Using a utility knife and a drywall saw, cut a strip of drywall about 3" wide out of the wall, below the outlets. Start at the center...
