Why would you opt for a central heating fire?

In terms of warmth and comfort, nothing beats a real wood fire. However, the heat from a fireplace in your living room can sometimes cause your thermostatic central heating or underfloor heating to shut down, making the rest of the house cold.

In addition, some of the heat from the wood fire gets lost up the chimney. In such a situation, a central heating fire is an excellent solution. With a central heating fire, you connect the wood fire or stove to an existing central heating system. This way, the heat from your fire is effectively used for heating your entire home as well as for heating water.

A central heating fire has many advantages. You save energy and money, you use fuel efficiently and, at the same time, you make your home cosy. Installing a central heating fire depends on your personal taste and the requirements of your home. It can be done in several ways.

If a fellow wanted to keep his wood furnace and install a heat pump in his house too (and use same ductwork), what's the procedure? Special considerations?

Gotta kill the heat pump if there is heat coming in from the wood burner, otherwise high head will kill it.

so would you lock out the heat pump with a tstat if the return air temp gets above certain temp? This is not a DIY job. The controls are not just on and off switches. It is very easy to destroy a heat pump using a wood furnace. There is also a way to do this where the heat pump can operate whenever there is a call for heat. Again, not something you can just type out for anyone to do. There are some pros in HVAC that should not tackle this. i think i can handle it, but thanks for the warning robo

Perfect for rural applications, Wood & Combination Furnaces provide the benefits of a wood burning furnace with a responsible backup plan. The backup system can be oil, gas or electric. In a typical Wood-Oil Furnace, the system relies on wood as the primary heat source. However, the furnace will operate on oil when you are away from home, or not able to replenish the wood fire. Like any other forced air system, a wood oil or wood electric combination furnace is connected to a thermostat, which regulates the heat produced in the wood burning firebox. By modulating vents and ducts, the furnace produces more heat when it’s needed and slows down the burn process when your home has reached its ideal temperature.

By operating Wood &r Combination Furnaces, homeowners can significantly reduce utility bills while still enjoying the comfort and convenience of a forced-air system.
